Singapore has played an important role in connecting South Asia with East Asia. It would be fair to say, that in addition to the economic reforms of 1991, and the efforts of successive governments, Singapore deserves credit for helping India strengthen ties with ASEAN.
India voted in favor of the UN General Assembly resolution condemning the US for its decision to move its embassy to and to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Given the close ties between India and Israel and India and the US, India’s decision has surprised many.
Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh was in Moscow meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Kolokoltsev. Singh’s visit was followed by that of Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Sochi.

The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified, Marxist and Leninist, the Nepal Communist Party-Maoist, and the Naya Shakti Party, formed an alliance for an upcoming election. However, the Naya Shakti party exited shortly after and aligned instead with the Nepali Congress party.
Pakistan hoped that allying with the US would strengthen its regional standing and position it comfortably against India. Pakistani expectations, however, have witnessed only partial success. The last few years have intensified the squeeze in bilateral engagements.
There are four maritime powers in the Indian Ocean Basin and the Pacific Ocean: the US, China, India and Japan. All four have powerful blue water navies and have contributed to peace and security in the region.
China and India seem to be resetting ties. Li Xiasan, the Organization Department head of Yunnan Province and Central Committee member of the Communist Party, visited India in September 2017, becoming the first Chinese official to visit India since the Doklam standoff.
